A police chase Saturday on Interstate 66 in the Arlington and Fairfax county areas led to a crash that caused six injuries and blocked the eastbound lanes of the highway for about an hour, authorities said.

The incident began shortly after 3 p.m. when the state police made a traffic stop in Fairfax County. As police were taking the driver into custody on an outstanding warrant, the passenger drove off, state police said. Police pursued the car, and when it was apparently blocked by traffic, near Sycamore Street in Arlington, it crashed.

Other details were not immediately available.
