DC neighborhood listed as 22nd most violent in the United States by private website

One Southeast Washington neighborhood has been ranked by a number-crunching Web site as the 22nd most dangerous in the United States.

NeighborhoodScout bestowed that ranking on the area around 4th and Atlantic streets SE, which is in the Washington Highlands neighborhood. The rating is based on a “predicted violent crime” rate of 72.65 per 1,000 residents.

The ranking lists the city center neighborhood of East St. Louis, Ill., as the most dangerous, with 100.97 violent crimes per 1,000 residents. No other District or Washington area neighborhoods are in the top 25.

NeighborhoodScout said it used “exclusive data” that it developed, in compiling the rankings, which it said are based on FBI data from all 17,000 local law enforcement agencies in the United States.
