D.C. police search for man who sexually assaulted woman in Petworth

A woman was sexually assaulted Sunday night in Northwest Washington’s Petworth neighborhood, according to D.C. police who were searching for a man in the attack.

It occurred between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. in the 3900 block of Georgia Avenue NW, two blocks north of the Georgia Avenue / Petworth Metro station. Police said the attack occurred inside a building, but they provide no other details.

Police released a detailed description of a man being sought, saying he is black and about 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 7 inches tall. He has a light complexion, a beard and black hair, and was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with writing on the front and blue jeans. Police said the shirt may have resembled a baseball jersey with long burgundy sleeves and white writing on the front.

Anyone with information is urged to call D.C. police at 202-727-9099.
