A man who died when his car went off the George Washington Memorial Parkway into the Potomac River on Sunday committed suicide, D.C. police said on Monday.
Officer Araz Alali, a police spokesman, would not elaborate on the findings. The man’s name was not immediately made public.
Authorities said the car veered off the highway near I-395 and the Humpback Bridge, and the Columbia Island Marina, went over grass and into the water. D.C. and U.S. Park Police recovered the body about 90 minutes after the incident occurred about noon.
Police said the operator of a D.C. Duck Tours boat called in the crash.
