A 67-year-old woman who escaped from a California correctional facility more than a decade ago while serving time for fraud has been found living in Leisure World in Northern Virginia, authorities said Friday.
In May 1999, Carolyn Macy was sentenced in Santa Clara County to serve three years in prison for fraud and identity theft, authorities said. She escaped during a transfer in February 2000. The Associated Press, quoting California prison officials, said she had been convicted of grand theft of more than $400 from an employer.
Law enforcement officials tracked her to Loudoun County and arrested her without incident Oct. 26 at her apartment at Leisure World, outside Leesburg, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said. Authorities did not specify what led them to Macy.
She is in custody without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on a felony extradition warrant, officials said.
