A Howard County man died Wednesday after stabbing himself, then being shot by two police officers who had come to his house to help him.
Police said that Darren Friedman, 45, was suffering from serious, self-inflicted stab wounds when they entered his bedroom after speaking with his family members. Friedman confronted two officers with his knife, police said, and both fired their guns.
Friedman was flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and pronounced dead.
Police said that they believed Friedman, who lived on the 7600 block of Coachlight Lane in Ellicott City, was trying to kill himself when police entered the room.
