Fairfax police probe death of man in Springfield

Fairfax County police Monday were investigating the murder of a man who was found lying in the roadway in Springfield.

The 24-year-old man was still alive when he was discovered Saturday night near Backlick Road and Highland Street, according to a police bulletin.

Initially, police believed he had been struck by a car. But after approaching him, investigators noticed an injury to his upper body that wasn’t consistent with a car accident, officials said.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died, a police spokeswoman said.

His identity is being withheld pending notficiation of family members, who are not in the U.S., the spokeswoman said.
