Fatal crash on Old Marlboro Pike after car hits tree

Prince George’s County police say a man training to be a member of the Maryland-National Capital Park Police died Sunday after his car hit a tree.

Jerrell Lamont Wedge, 24, was heading west on Old Marlboro Pike near Maple Shade Lane when his car swerved off the road and crashed, police said.

Wedge, who was attending the county’s police training academy, was the only person involved in the accident. Police arrived at the scene around 3:30 a.m. and found Wedge dead.

Investigators believe speed may have been a factor in the crash.
