The same man has tried to rob five banks in the Washington area this month, succeeding on his first and last attempts, the FBI said.

The serial robber made three tries Friday, leaving two banks empty-handed but getting cash at the third, the FBI said.

On June 6, a note demanding money at a PNC Branch on Martin Luther King Avenue SE in the District yielded cash, but the same technique produced nothing the next day at a PNC branch at a Lanham, Md., supermarket, the FBI said.

On Friday, two attempts failed in the District, at a Wells Fargo branch in the 3200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue SE and at one in the 1200 block of First Street NE. But the FBI said the persistent robber received money from a TD Bank branch on the other side of First Street.
