A former Prince George’s County Sheriff’s deputy was sentenced Friday to one year in prison for having sex with a female inmate at the courthouse while he was on duty, according to state prosecutors.

Lamar McIntyre, 33, pleaded guilty in August to sex with an inmate and one count of misconduct in office based on a June 2012 incident, authorities said.

The inmate, 36-year-old Precious Reaves, was waiting to see a judge at a county courthouse when she and McIntyre had sex in a holding cell. Maryland prosecutors have said the sex was consensual, but Reaves filed a $15 million civil suit against the state, saying she felt she had no choice but to have sex with McIntyre.

McIntyre was suspended without pay after the allegations initially emerged and is now no longer with the Sheriff’s Office. Prince George’s County Sheriff Melvin C. High immediately denounced McIntyre’s actions in 2012.

The civil trial is set for April. Upon completing his prison sentence, McIntyre also faces 18 months of supervised probation.
