D.C. police arrested a 20-year-old Georgia man Thursday on a murder charge that states he was part a robbery crew that fatally shot a 35-year-old man outside a Northwest Washington CVS store this spring, officials said.
Police arrested Javonte Odom of Decatur, Ga., on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant that charges him with the slaying of Antonio Ayala March 30 in the Brightwood area of the city. Two other men were charged in the case in April.
Ayala had been a late-night customer at the CVS and he was found with a fatal gunshot wound at the intersection of 13th and Van Buren streets about 2:30 a.m., according to police and court documents.
On April 7, detectives arrested Herman Odom, 23, who lives five blocks from where the robbery occurred and charged him with first-degree murder while armed and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
Two days later, authorities arrested and charged 23-year old Ammaad Chase-El, of Northwest Washington, with first-degree felony murder in connection with the case.
Police believe Ayala was targeted by the three men as they shopped in the store, according to court documents. He was later confronted by the crew two blocks away.
It was not immediately clear whether both Odom men were related.
