A 19-year-old pleaded guilty to punching an elderly man at a Metro station earlier this year.

Bill Miller, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District, said that Elijah Smith, who was charged with felony assault, pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge of simple assault for knocking the 69-year-old man down on the escalator at the Eastern Market station in April.

Smith told police when he was arrested that the victim pushed him when they were both getting off the train, then they argued. The attack was caught on video, which showed Smith punching the man three times before the man fell down.
