Kensington man dies in Rockville car crash

An 89-year-old Montgomery County man was killed Saturday in a car crash in Rockville, county police said.

The man, Irwin Percival Bellamy of Kensington, was a passenger in a car that collided with another vehicle about 2:20 p.m. at Maryland Avenue and Potomac Valley Road, police said.

The site is near Julius West Middle School and Interstate 270.

Bellamy’s son, David Alan Bellamy, 53, of Hanover, Md., was driving, police said. The younger Bellamy was turning left onto Potomac Valley Road from westbound Maryland Avenue, police said, when a car going east on Maryland Avenue struck the vehicle on the passenger side. The light was green on Maryland Avenue for both cars, police said.

Irwin Bellamy died at a hospital, police said. His son suffered injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening, they said.

Police said the driver of the other car, a woman in her early 70s, was not injured.
