Man arrested after throwing object over White House fence, Secret Service says

A man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after he threw an object over the north fence of the White House, authorities said. Police cleared Pennsylvania Avenue as they investigated.

The incident occurred about 1:35 p.m. At 2:45 p.m., the street was re-opened. No explosives were found. Authorities would not describe the object.

Brian Leary, a spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service, said the man has been arrested and taken to a D.C. police station. Charges had not been filed as of early Wednesday afternoon.
