A 32-year-old Falls Church man was charged with murder Thursday in the killing of his roommate, Fairfax County police said.
Marlon Oswaldo Gudiel Polanco, 32, is being held for allegedly stabbing Alvaro Zepeda, 44, to death early Thursday morning inside the apartment they shared in the 2900 block of John Marshall Drive. An adult female also suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Police were called to the apartment around 6:20 a.m. for a report of a stabbing. By the time they arrived, Polanco had fled on foot. Police said they found him hiding near the building. A police officer said Polanco suffered non-life-threatening injuries during his apprehension.
Zepeda’s older brother, Rubelio Zepeda, said the woman injured was Zepeda’s live-in girlfriend. Rubelio Zepeda said the woman told him his brother was attacked from behind as he was coming out of the bathroom to get ready for work.
She told Rubelio Zepeda that his brother and Polanco had not been arguing before the incident. The deceased was originally from Guatemala, and the family plans to send his body back home for burial.
Police declined to discuss a motive for the attack.
