D.C. police are investigating the fatal shooting of a Prince George’s County man early Thursday in Southeast Washington’s Anacostia neighborhood, according to a department spokeswoman.

The shooting occurred about 1:10 a.m. in the 1400 block of Cedar Street SE, adjacent to the grounds of the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site.

Police identified the victim as Thomas N. Deal, 33, of Upper Marlboro.

Aquita Brown, a police spokeswoman, said the victim was found unconscious. Police said he was pronounced dead on the scene.

Residents sent notes to police on the department’s Internet bulletin board reporting that they heard as many as 10 gunshots.
