A 78-year-old man found dead in his Woodbridge home Tuesday was the victim of a homicide, Prince William County police said Wednesday.
Police responded shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday to the 3400 block of Caledonia Circle to investigate a suspicious death. A friend of the man’s told police she went to visit him but when she arrived, she found the door to the home was “unsecured.” She called police.
Officer Jonathan L. Perok, a Prince William County police spokesman, would not elaborate on the security of the home.
“It wasn’t locked,” he said of the door, “but whether it was open or not we’re not commenting.”
When officers came, they searched the home and found the victim inside suffering from an injury to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Perok would not comment on the type of injuries the man sustained. He said police did not “know if it is a random crime.”
The victim was last seen on Sunday. The man’s identity was not immediately released pending notification of next of kin.
