Authorities have identified the body of a man who was pulled from the Patuxent River after the pickup truck he was driving went into the water.

Rene Dimanche Jr., 47, of Waldorf, died in what police are calling an accidental drowning, based on their initial report.

The incident began Tuesday around 5 a.m. when officers with Anne Arundel County said they responded to the area of Brock Bridge Road and Dorsey Run to help a driver who had driven into the water.

Officials said the river was swollen from heavy rains the night before, and there was high water on some roadways in that area, making them dangerous and impassable in parts.

When police arrived, a witness reported seeing a truck trying to drive through a flooded part of Brock Bridge Road. The truck floated up, spun in the direction of the current, and eventually disappeared under the water, the person said.

Divers and other rescue personnel searched the area for hours and did not find the truck.

Around 10:30 p.m., family members reported Dimanche missing. Later, a police officer found a pickup in the middle of the water on Dorsey Run. Police said further investigation found that the truck was a 1999 Toyota Tacoma that was registered to Dimanche.

Authorities said crews continued to search on Wednesday and around 1 p.m. found a body in the waters. It was later confirmed to be Dimanche.
