A D.C. couple who were engaged to be married were hit by a car Sunday night as they changed a tire, killing the man on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway near Laurel.

U.S. Park Police said the crash occurred around 9:15 p.m. as the couple had pulled over to the right shoulder of the road’s northbound lanes, just north of Route 197, to change a tire. They were struck by a vehicle that left the scene and was last seen heading north on the parkway.

There was no description of the vehicle available.

The man was later identified as Rick Warrick of the District. He was taken to an area hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, police said. His 28-year-old fiancee, who is also from the District, was taken to Baltimore Shock Trauma with non-life-threatening injuries.
