A Forestville man died after being shot in a struggle with a Prince George’s County police officer Friday night, police said.

Police said the officer’s gun fired while he fought with Asshams Pharoah Manley, 30, who police said ran from the scene of a car crash.

An officer pursued the man he saw fleeing from the crash near Brooks Drive and Marlboro Pike in District Heights about 11:30 p.m. and caught up with him on Walker Mill Road, police said.

They struggled over the officer’s gun and it discharged, police said. They said Manley continued to struggle and was not subdued until a second officer used a stun gun and a third officer joined in the effort to restrain him.

Manley, who died at a hospital, tested positive for opiates and marijuana, police said.
