A 24-year-old man died after his car crashed in Fauquier County, Virginia, late Monday while being pursued by sheriff’s deputies, authorities said. In addition to his crash injuries, the state police said the man also had what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
The county sheriff’s office said a deputy saw the car being driven recklessly about 10 p.m. Monday and tried to make a traffic stop. However, the sheriff’s office said, the car kept going, reaching speeds of more than 100 mph before crashing in the Bealetown area and ejecting the driver.
He was taken to a hospital where he died, authorities said. They identified him as Corey M. Chamberlain, of Marshall, Va.
State police were asked to investigate the crash, and said that early Tuesday the hospital notified a trooper of Chamberlain’s apparent gunshot wound. The matter remained under investigation, the state police said.
