Man shot by officer in Bladensburg area, Prince George’s police say

A man with a knife was shot and wounded around midnight Sunday by a police officer in the Bladensburg area, the Prince George’s County police said.

The man approached an officer in an aggressive manner, and refused orders to drop the knife, a county poliice spokesman said. Police said the officer “was forced to fire” his service weapon. The man’s knife was described as a large one.

The incident occurred just before midnight Sunday or just after midnight Monday, in the 5400 block of Annapolis Road. The site is near the edge of Bladensburg, a town about one mile square within the Capital Beltway in the eastern part of Prince George’s.

The officer was not injured. The wounded man was taken to a hospital. Police said his wounds did not appear to be life-threatening.

It was not clear what prompted the incident or why the officers were in the area.
