A body was found in a Silver Spring park Monday afternoon, and Montgomery County detectives are trying to determine how the person died.

At 2:12 p.m., authorities received a call of a “suspicious situation” in a wooded area in or around Jesup Blair Local Park, said Cpl. Rebecca Innocenti, a police spokeswoman. The small park is just south of downtown Silver Spring, near the border with the District.

Police initially said that they could not confirm whether the person was a man or a woman, just that the person was not a young child. By late afternoon, they had determined that the person was an adult black man.

Police said they had a possible identification and were working on confirming the man’s identity and contacting his family.

Officer Nicole Gamard said that police do not know how the man died.
