Prince George’s County Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that authorities suspect stemmed from a race that turned deadly Tuesday night.
Officers found the man at the intersection of Good Luck and Greenbelt roads near Lanham around 10:50 p.m. Cpl. Nate Lewis, a police spokesman, said the man had trauma to his body and was rushed to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police identified the victim as 56-year-old Robert Edward Bailey III, of Cambridge Park Court in Silver Spring
Authorities suspect the motorcyclist had been racing another motorcycle Tuesday night, when he failed to negotiate a right curve in the road, hit a curb, then struck a guardrail. Lewis said officers did not find another motorcycle when they arrived at the scene, but police wrote in a report that a race caused the crash. Lewis stressed that the race had not been confirmed.
Good Luck and Greenbelt roads had been closed while investigators were on accident scene, but later re-opened.
