Multi-vehicle pile-up injures eight people, shuts down Silver Spring street

A multi-vehicle crash left eight people injured Thursday night in Silver Spring, Montgomery County authorities said.

The accident happened in the 2000 block of University Boulevard West about 9:30 p.m., and involved at least four vehicles, officials said. County medics found eight people injured and transported them to hospitals, including one person who was in serious condition, said Pete Piringer, a fire department spokesman.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
