Maryland State Police said Route 50 in Prince George’s County reopened early Tuesday after being shut down when a tanker truck overturned.
The truck overturned onto the median of Route 50 just after 6 p.m. Monday, leading police to close down the eastbound lanes.
The tanker was carrying resin, which authorities said is non-hazardous, flipped onto the concrete median about a mile west of Route 301 in Bowie, state police said. The driver was trapped in the truck’s cab and Prince George’s County rescuers had to cut him from the wreckage.
The driver was taken to a hospital with injuries that there not believed to be life threatening, said Mark Brady, a fire department spokesman.
It took several hours for the trucking company, which was transporting the resin, to remove the material from the tanker.
The cause of the accident remained under investigation.
