Pedestrian, 74, dies after being struck by car in Springfield

A 74-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed Sunday by a car as he was crossing Old Keene Mill Road in Springfield.

Fairfax County police said the incident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. when Thomas Sullivan was walking south across the eastbound lanes of Old Keene Mill Road. Police said he was not in a crosswalk and was struck as he was in the left lane by a 2008 Mazda 323.

The car was headed southbound on Greeley Boulevard and was making a left turn on a green light onto Old Keene Mill Road. Police said the driver of the car was an 80-year-old man.

Sullivan was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
