A person walking in Anacostia Park on Christmas Day found a dead body lying in the grass between the 11th Street Bridge and Pennsylvania Avenue SE, U.S. Park Police said.
The man’s body was found about 3 p.m., said U.S. Park Police Sgt. Lelani Woods, a department spokeswoman. She said the unidentified body was of a clothed adult male. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Woods said D.C. police homicide detectives were also involved in the investigation, in case the medical examiner rules that the death occurred as a result of a criminal act. D.C. police investigate all homicides and suspicious deaths in the District, even those on federal property.
The body was located just off Anacostia Drive, which runs along the Anacostia River.
