Police arrest man in two sexual assaults near Washington’s downtown

A 60-year-old man has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting two women as they walked near Mount Vernon Square near downtown Washington, according to D.C. police.

Leroy A. Hamilton of no fixed address was charged with two counts of misdemeanor sexual abuse. He was arrested Thursday, according to police.

Authorities said the first attack occurred about 4:30 p.m. on May 17 in the 800 block of Fourth Street NW, near Massachusetts Avenue and between Union Station and Mount Vernon Square. Police said a man struck a woman’s buttocks as she walked along the street.

D.C. police said the second attack occurred a block away on Nov. 19 about 11:15 a.m., in the 700 block of Seventh Street NW, when a man reached under a woman’s dress and grabbed her buttocks.
