Police identify man fatally shot in Northeast as Jermaine Dews of Southeast

A man shot Wednesday afternoon on a Northeast Washington street died at the scene and has been identified as Jermaine Dews, 27, of Southeast, according to D.C. police.

Officer Araz Alali, a police spokesman, said detectives made no arrests and know of no motive. Officer found Dews when they responded to the residential area to investigate reports of gunshots.

The shooting occurred about 3:10 p.m. in 5800 block of Field Place NE, near Eastern and Nannie Helen Burroughs avenues. It’s also close to the border with Maryland, in the Burrville neighborhood.

Police did not have a description of the shooter.
