One of two people fatally shot within 14 minutes of each other Monday night in Southeast Washington has been identified as a 40-year-old D.C. man, police said on Wednesday.
Ronnell Daniels of Southeast was pronounced dead at an area hospital shortly after the 11:15 p.m. shooting in the first block of 55th Street SE in the Marshall Heights neighborhood.
D.C. police released few details other than to say Daniels had been shot several times and was found in the street just off East Capitol Street and near the city’s border with Maryland.
Less than 15 minutes after Daniels was shot, police responded to the 2600 block of Bowen Road SE, near Anacostia, where they found Antwone Dwayne Tolson, 19, of Southeast, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police said on Wednesday they do not believe the shootings are related. The locations are more than five miles apart. Police said they knew of no motive or suspect in either case so far.
