Possible serial groper assaulting women in shopping areas

Fairfax County police are searching for a man who may have fondled seven women in busy shopping areas in the Baileys Crossroads area over the past month.

The suspect approaches women from behind, fondles and grabs their buttocks or crotch area and then flees, police said. None of the victims has been seriously injured, and the suspect has not spoken during the assaults.

The incidents occurred in the afternoon or evening between March 22 and April 19, police said. The victims are between the ages of 20 and 40.

Since the suspect acts so quickly, few victims have been able to give details about him. However, police think there may have been witnesses that have not come forward, since the assaults occurred in high-traffic areas along the Routes 7 and 50 corridors.

Police said they have no information linking the most recent fondlings to a series of 22 similar assaults that occurred around the Springfield area in 2012 and 2013.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477.
