A Prince George’s County police officer shot and wounded a man Sunday evening in the Bladensburg area, police and witnesses said.
The shooting occurred about 8 p.m. in the 3500 block of 55th Avenue, police said.
The wounded man was taken to a hospital with injuries described as not life threatening.
Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a police spokesman, said it appeared that the officer was sent to investigate a domestic dispute. He said the wounded man had a knife.
Residents reported hearing several gunshots. They said they saw the man lying a dozen feet from one of the three-story apartment buildings that line the generally quiet street.
A visitor to the area who identified himself as Welmy Joel said he saw the wounded man being treated at the scene. Joel said the man was “probably in his 20s.” After treatment, the man appeared to be in pain, but “he was talking,” Joel said.
