Prince George’s County police arrested a Greenbelt man in connection with the fatal stabbing of a Landover woman, authorities said.

Tor Campbell, 39, faces first-degree murder charges in the slaying of Shauntelle Marie Lewis, 36, police announced Tuesday.

Campbell is believed to be Lewis’s ex-boyfriend, said Capt. Jimmy Simms, assistant commander of the Prince George’s County criminal investigation division.

Lewis’s mother found her daughter suffering from stab wounds at a home in the 6800 block of West Forest Road at about 9:10 a.m. Monday, authorities said.

Earlier that day, police had attempted a traffic stop on a car, but it fled the scene, Simms said. The car was later found crashed in the woods, Simms said. As police attempted to find the car’s owner, they contacted Lewis’s mother, who said her daughter had her car, Simms said. That’s when Lewis’s mother went to her daughter’s home with her grandchildren and she found Lewis dead, Simms said.

“We quickly determined our victim had been with Mr. Campbell several hours before she was found deceased,” Simms said.

Police located Campbell and questioned him Tuesday morning, Simms said. When Campbell was in custody, police said, they found clothes and a weapon at one of his old addresses that they believe connects him to Lewis’s death.

Out of the 10 homicides Prince George’s has reported for August, Lewis’s death is the seventh that is domestic-related, Simms said.
