Prince William motorcycle officer dies in collision

A Prince William County police officer was killed Monday afternoon in a crash while responding to a call.

About 2 p.m., Officer Chris Yung, 35, crossed the intersection at Nokesville Road and Piper Lane in Manassas while responding to a crash, according to a news release. A minivan turning left into a shopping center at the intersection collided with Yung, who was assigned to the county’s traffic unit as a motorcycle officer, police said.

Yung was on his motorcycle when the accident occurred, according to Officer Jonathan Perok, a department spokesman.

Yung was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Yung had been with the department for seven years, police said. Perok said the department would not release additional information, including whether the officer’s lights and siren were on at the time of the crash.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
