Purcellville police officer involved in fatal shooting

A police officer from Purcellville, Va., shot and killed a person Saturday, according to the Virginia State Police.

The shooting occurred about 2:20 p.m. at a house in the town west of Leesburg.

Virginia State Police are investigating the incident, and few details were immediately released. Officials said in a statement that the officer who fired his gun was not injured.

No details were provided about what happened, the identity of the man killed or precisely where in Purcellville the shooting occurred. A spokeswoman for the state police said more information would be released later Saturday.

The Purcellville Police Department has 15 officers serving about 8,300 residents.
