Four men were shot, two of whom died, in separate incidents Sunday morning. One is being investigated by D.C. police as a homicide, the other as a justifiable shooting of a would-be robber in Prince George’s County, law enforcement officials said.

Prince George’s police responded around 12:35 a.m. to 23rd Parkway in Hillcrest Heights, where they pronounced dead a man who had been shot. According to a news release, detectives believe the man approached two people sitting in a car in order to rob them.

“The would-be robber pulled out a handgun during the incident. A struggle over the handgun ensued” between the robber and a man inside the car,” the release said. During the struggle, the robber was shot.

Corp. Maria McKinney said Sunday evening that police were still investigating but believe the shooting to be justifiable. No criminal charges were being placed at the time, she said.

About 2 a.m. D.C. police responding to a call at 3400 Stanton Road in Southeast D.C. found two adult men and one male youth who had been shot and wounded , said Officer Paul Metcalf.

All three were taken to area hospitals. One adult died; the other two males were injured but their medical conditions weren’t available Sunday evening.

Police are investigating and details of what prompted the shootings or the identities and relationships of people involved were not immediately available.
