A multi-car crash on Crain Highway in Brandywine on Sunday afternoon has left 11 people injured and one vehicle on fire, according to Maryland State Police.

Mark Brady of the Prince George’s County Fire Department said that one victim had life-threatening injuries, while two more were in trauma care. It was a six-car crash, according to the Maryland State Police. The rescue effort involved three fire engines, a rescue engine, five ambulances, three medic units and at least one helicopter, Brady said..

The crash occurred at 2:34 p.m. Southbound Route 301 is shut down; the northbound lanes have been reopened.

Maryland State Police are investigating.
