Two people were hospitalized Friday night with smoke inhalation after a fire at a Springfield-area apartment building, Fairfax County fire officials said.
Smoke poured from a blaze that burned a first-floor apartment and hallway in the 6100 block of Backlick Road starting about 10:30 p.m., said Capt. Willie Bailey, a spokesman. Medics evaluated 13 people at the scene, and took two patients to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, he said.
Firefighters extinguished the fire in about 25 minutes, but 45 people were displaced from their homes due to smoke and fire damage, Bailey said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
