A suspect has been arrested in the baseball-bat beating of a 72-year-old man that followed an attempt to rob him, Prince George’s County police said.

The victim was severely injured in the Sept. 15 attack and remained hospitalized Saturday, police said.

Police said Justin C. Strong, 22, of the 4100 block of 34th Street in Mount Rainier was arrested Friday and charged with attempted murder and armed robbery.

The attack occurred about 5:45 a.m. near a bus stop in the 3800 block of Bladensburg Road in Colmar Manor, police said.

Police said a robber with a knife demanded the man’s wallet. They said the victim refused and the robber left but soon returned with an aluminum bat and began attacking the man with it.

A passerby shouted and the assailant ran. Handing out a composite sketch helped close the case, said Cpl. Maria McKinney, a police spokeswoman.
