Suspects in theft on Rockville Pike use spray on store employees

Shoplifters used a chemical spray to escape from store employees during a shoplifting incident Friday on Rockville Pike, authorities said.

Three women deployed the spray during an attempt to steal items from a Lord & Taylor store at the White Flint Mall, the Montgomery County police said.

The incident on the pike at 5:40 p.m. came about an hour after another shoplifting incident at another Lord & Taylor store, this one at the Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg. Three women were also involved in that incident, police said.
