A Fairfax County man died Thursday while helping a neighbor clear a snow-covered driveway, his family said.

Peter C. Williams, 67, was using a snow blowing machine around 11 a.m., when he collapsed on the hilly driveway in the 1800 block of Collingwood Road in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County, the family said.

Williams was transported to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Williams was an attorney and active member of the Rotary Club of Alexandria, and was known for his volunteer work.

Katy Fike, his fiancee, said the couple were supposed to be married on May 10. Williams did not have any children.

“He was an absolute prince of a man,” said John Hooff, his former brother-in-law. “He was a friend to everyone…It’s just really sad. He died trying to help someone.”
