White House fence is scaled in snow; climber is quickly seized

Someone climbed over the White House fence Sunday afternoon during the heaviest of the snowfall in Washington. The fence-climber, described only as male, was quickly taken into custody, a U.S. Secret Service spokesman said.

The incident occurred at the north fence, on Pennsylvania Avenue NW, about 3:55 p.m., said Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary.

No name was immediately available, and no motive could be learned.

The president was believed to be at home at the time.
