A District man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Friday for the 2011 fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man during a robbery following a craps game.

D.C. Superior Court Judge Ronna L. Beck sentenced William Faison,23, in connection with the July 2, 2011 fatal shooting of Jeffrey Covington of the District. In June, Faison pled guilty to second-degree murder in the case.

The victim’s father, Jeffrey Blount, 43, who in June pled guilty to tampering with evidence, was later sentenced to five months in jail, but that time was suspended on condition Blount completes a year of probation.

Prosecutors said Blount and Covington were involved in a craps game in the 600 block of 46th Place SE. Authorities said Faison approached Blount with a .38-caliber revolver and tried to rob him. Blount, prosecutors said, tried to intervene on behalf of his father and Faison shot him once in the upper chest.
