Actor Anwan Glover, known for his role in the television series “The Wire,” was stabbed at a D.C. nightclub early Sunday morning.

According to a police report, Glover reported that he was on the second floor of Cafe Asia, a restaurant at 1720 I Street NW, when an unknown person punched him. He turned to face his assailant, and another person hit him on the back of the head, causing him to slip on the wet floor.

Glover said he was then kicked multiple times. He heard someone shout, “He has a knife,” and felt a sharp pain in his right side.

He was treated for a laceration on the right side of his torso at George Washington University Hospital.

In a post on Instagram, Glover said he had been released from the hospital. “I am not a stranger to adversity and when shown hate, I’m going to spread love. I am recovering and will be back soon. My flesh may be stabbed but my spirit is unbreakable,” he wrote.

Glover, who grew up in Columbia Heights and now lives in Upper Marlboro, added, “I’m always going to love my city.”

Another assault was reported at the club at 1:30 a.m., about 20 minutes before the attack on Glover. The victim of the first assault, a 37-year-old woman, told police that she got into an argument with a man she did not know. He punched her in the mouth and was escorted out of the club.

Officer Paul Metcalf, a D.C. police spokesman, said he had no reason to believe that the two attacks were related.

Glover, 41, most recently appeared in the Oscar-winning movie “12 Years a Slave.” In “The Wire,” he played tough gangster Slim Charles.

Off screen, Glover has participated in anti-violence campaigns and spoken about his personal encounters with violence.

He reportedly was shot 13 times in his youth. His brother died in a shooting in the District in 2007, and his son was wounded in a shooting at a party in 2011.

Glover plays in a musical group, the Backyard Band, which performed Saturday at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia. The afternoon concert, called the 2014 Summer Spirit Festival, featured Lauryn Hill, Janelle Monáe and other artists.
