Two shot, killed in Southeast Washington; victims include 21-year-old woman

Two people were shot and killed and a third man injured in separate shootings Thursday night and early Friday in Southeast and Northeast Washington, according to D.C. police.

The latest shooting occurred minutes before 1 a.m. when police were called to an apartment in the 4400 block of G Street SE, in the Benning Ridge neighborhood.

Officer Araz Alali, a D.C. police spokesman, said officers found Rokeida Spriggs, 21, of Southeast, in the apartment suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead, he said.

No other information about the shooting or possible motive was released.

About 8:10 p.m. on Thursday, Alali said officers responding to a shooting in the 3400 block of A Street SE found a man lying unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Police identified the man as Kevin Lucas, 28, from Southeast. He was shot on a street just south of East Capitol Street and near the Anacostia Freeway.

About three miles away, police said another man was shot in the 500 block of 60th Street NE, just before 10 p.m. The victim was found conscious and breathing, but no other details were immediately available.
