A 47-year-old Upper Marlboro woman was killed early Sunday after her car veered off Interstate 495 and hit a guardrail, Maryland State Police said.

Authorities believe fatigue caused the 3:45 a.m. crash that killed Veronica Denise Edmonds.

State Police Sgt. Jeff Stevenson said Edmonds was driving a silver Dodge Avenger southbound on I-495 in Capitol Heights. At some point, just south of Route 214, the Dodge suddenly veered left, crossed three lanes and hit a guardrail, he said.

Edmonds was pronounced dead at the scene. Stevenson said the crash is under investigation.
