Woman killed in her home in Alexandria

A woman was found dead in her home on Friday in what police say is the city of Alexandria’s third homicide of 2014.

Asabech Abayneh, 43, lived in the 5600 block of Derby Court. The cause of death was not immediately apparent but the case was ruled a homicide after an autopsy on Saturday morning, according to Crystal Nosal, a spokeswoman for the Alexandria police department

Earlier in the year, 59-year-old music teacher Ruthanne Lodato was shot in her home in a still-unsolved murder which has been linked to two other killings in the quiet city. Police have said that Charles Severance, a former Alexandria resident who has not been charged, is a focus of the investigation into those three crimes.

Last month, Julio Caesar Urrutia-Erazo, 27, was killed in Alexandria after an argument between two groups of people last month.
