Woman runs over husband in driveway of their Springfield home

A 72-year-old Springfield woman accidentally ran over and killed her husband in the driveway of their home Wednesday morning, Fairfax County police said.

A preliminary investigation determined 84-year-old Chong Sik Kim walked to the mailbox at the end of driveway shortly after 10 a.m., police said. Around the same time, Kim’s wife backed the couple’s 2009 Lexus RX5 from the garage and down the driveway. She did not see her husband, who had slipped on a patch of ice, and backed over him as he lay on the ground, police said.

The man was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

His wife’s name was not released by police. Neither speed or alcohol were factors in the accident.
