A woman was hit by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon in the K Street corridor at the height of the homebound rush hour, and her condition appeared to be extremely serious.
The woman was struck about 5:40 p.m. at 18th and K Streets, said Officer Paul Metcalf, a police spokesman.
She was unconscious, and did not appear to be breathing when she was taken to a hospital, Metcalf said.
The incident remained under investigation late into the evening, and traffic was rerouted around the busy intersection. Motorists were advised to expect delays.
